How To Install Gable Vent With Vinyl Siding

I have what may be a stupid question to you all but i have never installed one of these typically only normal vinyl gable vents in the past.

How to install gable vent with vinyl siding.

Place it between the studs and the gable ends. I had gable vents but we removed the old vents and covered the holes with the new siding. I am thinking that i should be able to cut holes in the siding where the old vents used to be and then install new gable vents on top of the siding as long as they have some sort of nailing flange. Or do i try to take the siding apart where i have to cut.
