How to use flat boards as siding.
The boards used for this siding style are sawed lengthwise in a pie shape to create a wide edge on one side of the board and a narrow edge on the other.
To install board and batten siding start with installing wide vertical boards spaced approximately one board width 7 8 apart.

The courses should overlap by at least 1 in.

When you replace the boards use a homemade reveal set jig to match the reveal of the existing siding.

The walls should be stripped of all previous siding and the surface should be fairly smooth and flat because lap siding will follow along any contours.
Board siding is made from durable softwood lumber that has been milled into any of several patterns designed to interlock or overlap so the boards naturally shed rain sleet and snow.

Bevel siding uses lumber more efficiently than clapboards since you can usually get two beveled siding boards out of one clapboard during the milling process.
Similar in appearance to clapboard siding bevel siding is a flat board cut into an isosceles triangle and attached horizontally to the wall with the thicker side toward the bottom.
Thinner patterns should be installed over a base of plywood or oriented strand board sheathing.
